An Accessible Venue for Art
That is our goal, we want a venue where everyone feels welcome, safe and catered for. We believe that everyone has access needs and we do our best to meet as many of these as possible. Being Disabled, Neurodiverse and Queer owned, we understand the importance of Access.
Our struggle is that as we are not government run, nor a not for profit, so we are not eligible for any help in funding the adaptations to the 130 year old building that houses The Old Auction House.
Below are what we have already implemented but please get in touch with us and we will do our best to cater to any other access requirements that you might need.
Physical Access

The Old Auction House has a wheelchair accessible main entrance that has a ramped 4cm step and a 88cm wide doorway. If required there is a second door that can be opened to accommodate wider aids. The store and gallery have a maintained walkway of a minimum of 1m.
There is a ramp to the rear of the buildings that accesses the Teaching Studio, Bathrooms and kitchen.
There is a non-accessible 26cm stage that wraps around in front of all of the windows. This is mostly a no access area for customers except for a small section of the shop. Please feel free to ask staff to assist you to view items in this section or assist you up and down the step. We are working on getting this legacy stage amended.

We currently do not have a bathroom that meets Australian Standard 1428.1-2009. We do have what we call the Roomy toilet (details below), and are saving up to finish turning the toilet into a compliant restroom.
All bathrooms at The Old Auction House are non-gendered. There are two bathrooms that we have named Skinny and Roomy.
Roomy has a 90cm doorway, a minimum room width of 145cm including 100cm clearance from the edge of the toilet. There is also 100cm clearance directly in front of the toilet. The toilet is 37cm high. There is levered mixer tap with a suspended sink which is 78cm high and has 10cm of overhang. Diagram and Images of Bathroom
The nearest disability bathroom is 170m in front of the public library.

There are bench seats in the galleries placed according to the layout of each exhibition. During openings additional chairs with backs are added to the space.
Seating for workshops is dependent mainly on the space used and the medium being done. Black metal stools with no back, or 76cm high wooden backed chairs with a wider 42cm front are mainly used.
If you have specific requirements in relation to seating for a workshop, please do reach out prior to your session so we can make sure to accomodate you.

There are three 1.5h parking spaces directly in front of the building as well as a free 2h carpark 80m from the entrance down Welsh Street.
Alternatively there is a All-Day carpark off Simpson Street 100m from the entrance of The Old Auction House.

There is a bus stop 100m that has a bus to Kyneton Station or around Kyneton township.
The train station is 900m walk along a gentle slope with maintained footpaths.
The Old Auction House uses all non-fluorescent lighting throughout the space, maintains low background noise and has spaces for participants of workshops and openings to retreat to, to assist with sensory overload.
All of our shop staff have received basic training in assisting Neurodiverse clientele as well as those with a Intellectual Disability and the disabled community in general.

While we do not currently run NDIS specific workshops we welcome participants who are of appropriate functional capacity to join our workshops, and can arrange small group or 1:1 sessions as well. Please email us if you require a NDIS invoice for a workshop or if you have any questions.
