This exhibition is where the minutiae become monumental and every tiny detail invites wonder. At a time when scale often dominates, this exhibition asks us to pause and lean in, to delight in the subtle, the diminutive and the delightfully compact. All artworks are capped at 10 cm in any direction, but by limiting size does not limit the impact of the pieces.

From delicate paintings and miniature sculptures to finely crafted mixed media works, All The Small Things gathers artists who embrace reduction not as limitation, but as invitation. The tiny becomes intimate: a whisper where once there was a shout; a hidden gesture that beckons discovery. Just as the idea suggests, the best things truly do come in small packages.

This exhibition showcases the works of two emerging Victorian regional artists, Terri MacDonald and Michelle Slater as they utilise colour, line, and form to explore the movement and appearance of Australian birds and botanical subjects.

Their exploration of natural themes of the Australian environment is connected through depictions of familiar birds and plants, with each artist drawing inspiration from their own experiences of the natural environment. Through watercolour and acrylic painting, as well as traditional printmaking techniques, both artists approach similar subjects with an emphasis on colour, shape, line, and form.

Begin Again by Carmen Mazzarotta was created as a way to make sense of Carmen's life experiences, delving into how each significant experience changes us and how we are constantly looking through a new lens, with new learnings, new hopes, and new dreams.

Carmen’s artwork inspires and evokes love, care, protection and appreciation of our most precious gift, Nature. Carmen says “Nature is life giving, always grounding me, balancing, renewing my thoughts and positivity” Carmen’s artworks mirror the colour, the emotion and expression of nature, bringing nature inside and emulating the feeling of being amongst nature.

Christopher Strong pursues beauty, explores emotions and makes connections to the changing world around him by painting his personal encounters with nature in Australia. His work pays tribute to the abundance of life, energy and colour found in Australia’s flowers, plants and wildlife, and how experiencing nature brings meaning to our lives.

Chris uses a bright, vibrant and detailed style, demonstrating passion, effort and focus in his oil paintings, with each painting depicting a real life, unexpected close encounter with a natural subject.

Humans seem wired to draw joy and calm from all the other creatures we share this planet with - no matter what species humans find themselves stopping to wonder at their antics and actions. 

Domesticated, wild, native, or introduced animals the greatest way to capture their essence is in art just as these 11 artists have in this exhibition.

The secondary students of Global Village Learning Community have organised and invited local Artists, students, and community members to transform wooden shoemaker’s lasts into deeply personal expressions, shaped by memory, identity, and imagination.

These lasts were once used by master craftsman Emmanuel Camilleri, a shoe maker to many including the Queen of England, but this exhibition isn’t about the lasts as shoes it is about what we carry, and what we leave behind. 

As you step into this space ask yourself, ‘What will be my lasting impression?’

Another Quiet Protest—stillness fills the space, an atmosphere thick with both tension and tenderness. Over a dozen gentle warriors stand suspended in time, their surfaces etched with the thoughts of thousands. These fictitious figures speak volumes through silence. Historical slogans and words of affirmation are boldly scribed across their forms, echoing decades of queer resistance and resilience. Bathed in the shifting hues of the progressive rainbow colours, they carry a quiet, powerful message of hope: we are here, we have always been here, and we will not disappear.

This body of work explores the quieter side of protest—those moments of stillness that carry deep meaning. While queer activism has often taken to the streets through marches, riots, and vigils, it also lives in subtle gestures: in the courage to exist, to affirm one’s identity, to hold space for others. From the Stonewall Riots to ACT UP, to the ongoing fight for trans rights, queer protest is not only loud—it is patient, persistent, and profoundly human. These figures do not shout; they listen. They do not march; they hold ground. In an era where LGBTQ+ rights are once again under threat, their quiet presence becomes an act of defiance—a protest against erasure, and a whisper of what still can be.

Andrea investigates the power of uncertainty, simplicity, and the ordinary by embracing a minimalist aesthetic. She utilises everyday materials such as cement, plaster, ply and in this exhibition Indigo pigment with an experimental and intuitive approach to materiality.

Andrea was heavily influenced by Michael Marder's book "To Heal a Shipwrecked World", a in depth exploration that delves into the ecological and spiritual insights of 12th-century mystic Hildegard of Bingen. She was especially drawn to the concept of Viriditas - a Latin term signifying "greening" or the life force inherent in nature, as a metaphor for healing both the environment and the human condition.

Mader intertwines Hildegard's medieval perspectives with contemporary ecological concerns, to encourage a re-evaluation of our connection to nature by adopting a mindset attuned to the rhythms and wisdom of plant life as to foster a more sustainable and compassionate existence.

In this exhibition Andrea has chosen to use the colour Indigo from her understanding of Sacred colours and history especially from the perspective of understanding indigo's layered history can offer insights into broader themes of colour, culture, and power dynamics; as both a commodity of colonial exploitation and a symbol of sacredness.

Jahne Hope-Williams comes from a long line of Tarot readers through her gypsy line, throughout her life she has grown and studied this mystic connection through spirituality, yoga, meditation, theology, art, philosophy, and hypnosis. Jahne decided to make her own deck but each attempt failed until she put her life long study, belief in Tarot and the mystic to allow her to channel her own Tarot decks.

Jahne has channelled all of her Tarot decks and artwork and hopes that those that view and purchase her works are able to use their Tarot decks or artwork to assist in their spiritual practice. Jahne believes that everyone knows what to do in their life but don’t do it. Tarot gives the person the confidence to dot it!

In this collaborative exhibition, Megan and Astrid fuse their distinct styles—oil painting and printmaking—around the shared theme of capturing candid everyday moments. The show also debuts a limited series where their techniques merge, offering a fresh and captivating blend of their creative visions.

Megan's art celebrates the beauty of the Australian landscape and cherished moments with loved ones. Working in oil, she layers textures to evoke natural elements like rocks, water, and reflections. Blending landscapes and portraits, Megan’s work captures the deep connection between people and places.

Astrid is a self-taught lino print artist who specialises in carving expressive moments in time. With a focus on the intricate interplay of textures and lighting, Astrid's work captures the essence of her subjects with remarkable precision.

Terri MacDonald has drawn inspiration from local birdlife to produce her first solo exhibition, Flights of Fancy, a curation of mostly central Victorian birds focusing on their character, colour and form. 

This exhibition joins in celebrating Birdtober, the national bird month through works in an assortment of mediums including watercolour, pen and ink, as well as various printmaking techniques.

Terri uses her training as both an illustrator and visual artist, teamed with her doctorate in Natural History Art, to document the wide array of wildlife, and in particular, the birds that frequent in and around her home. She reflects on her interaction and observations of the birds that she sees almost daily, and while there are a number of distinct species of birds, there is focus in the exhibition on the parrots that are her regular visitors– including galahs, sulphur crested cockatoos and rainbow lorikeets.

‘One Step Further’ is a curated selection of artists who push the boundaries of contemporary-themed quilt making. Presented by Victoria Quilters Inc. this juried biennial exhibition of Contemporary Textile Artwork is open to all textile artists in Australia & New Zealand. 

The displayed quilts demonstrate a wide range of techniques, fabrics, and innovative designs with each maker going ‘one step further’  in style, technique and presentation while retaining the essence of a quilt.

A Collection of Delightful Illustrated Books by a collection of Delightful Artists

The artists from The Drying Shed Art Space, Castlemaine, are a uniquely talented bunch, each with their own mediums, themes, and paths that led them to art. The ‘Picture This’ exhibition is the culmination of their project to capture each artist’s creations in the printed form, accompanied by stories and facts. 

Each book features a single artist and their own theme, ranging from delicate line art in the scrapperboard of Marieanne Heard, to lively creatures and stories of Linda Newton, the charismatic canine pals of Ro Windust, the embracing landscapes of Lucinda Cotter, and the expertly captured animals of Jan Harvey and Robyn Clarke. Each is a perfect creative keepsake like a whole exhibition of artworks in one small binding.

Time passes and catches up with everything, breaking it down to something new, as things crumble, there's beauty in how nature transforms them. Stones covered in moss tell stories of the past, showing how life persists through it all. A relentless dance, nature's hand molds decay into a canvas, where moss-laden stones whisper tales of forgotten era. From rich leaf litter on the forest floor to long forgotten relics of human history there is beauty in this decay.

F*ck and Flee by Christos Linou a provocative exhibition reflecting on his personal experiences in the gay sex onsite scene between 2010–19.

These abstract non-explicit paintings are accompanied by short erotic tales questioning the validity of the casual sex scene and the notion of “F*cking and Fleeing".

This exhibition is part of the prize Christos received for winning last year's LGBTQIA+ Regional Art Prize, as part of Midsumma's Regional Activation Program.

First was the dating stage, next follows the wedding. This is the next chapter in the thematic work of Bendigo Street Artist, Mr Dimples.

His last exhibition explored the frustrations and humour behind the dating world, this exhibition aims to capture the up and down rollercoaster ride of weddings. There is an old saying that runs true; “Hurt an artist, and you’ll see masterpieces of what you have done”. This is the case with Mr Dimples’ current exhibition, The Toxic Bride.

This is the age-old story of a friendship breakdown due to many events and occurrences leading to and just after a friend’s wedding, which the artist finally stopped biting his tongue and finally snapped. For this show, Mr Dimples sought the stories from his friends, family and Instagram followers for their wedding party horror stories, and combined these with his own personal stories. And here are the results.

The artist has used one his old characters, the Corpse Bride as a vehicle to show the artist’s dislike for the concept of weddings, marriage and other archaic expectations from society as seen his previous exhibitions, and teamed it up with the age-old concept of the Bride-Zilla. Tarli Bird, an accomplished artist, draws inspiration from the ever-changing landscapes of Echuca, Australia, as well as her travels both domestically and internationally. Growing up on a farm, Tarli developed a deep fascination with the dynamic nature of landscapes, observing how colors and patterns shifted with the seasons and rainfall. As an avid runner, covering approximately 130km per week, she witnesses firsthand the interplay between natural beauty and human impact on the land.

In her captivating paintings, Tarli employs a unique combination of acrylic paint, spray paint, and embroidery. Her artistic process begins with intuitive brushstrokes, forming the initial layers of paint with simple lines and vibrant colors. The second layer, created using spray paint, intricately maps out the space, subtly hinting at the influence of human intervention on our surroundings. Finally, the third layer of embroidery interweaves the previous layers, adding texture and creating a mesmerizing visual effect. When viewing Tarli's artworks, the flickering colors evoke the sensation of gazing upon a real-life landscape, where the eyes naturally roam and perceive the subtle nuances.

Joseph’s impressionist paintings are heavily influenced by his study in Architecture and Landscape Architecture as well as his fascination with the lines in nature.

His vibrant style is inspired by the natural world and it’s interplay of colours and textures as they change through the seasons, having a particular affinity for humbling skylines and gardens in full bloom.

Using a vibrant palette and free-flowing line work his abstract compositions are grounded through his figurations and structural elements. Joseph builds layers of paint and washes which he manipulates and scribbles away to reveal the complementary colours beneath

The elements of land, sky, and nature overlap in his paintings, creating a sense of harmony and balance that draws the viewer into the scene.

Macedon Ranges in the Autumn is full of chilly nights in front of a fire, cup of hot chocolate or wine in hand while you delight in the smorgasbord board of delectable delights that can be found at our farmer’s markets and small makers in the region. Days are filled with exploring beautiful gardens and streetscapes full of swirling auburn leaves and autumn bulbs interspersed by visits to local artisans and shops and of course, a cup or two of warm coffee and a good feed at one of our outstanding restaurants. Autumn in the Macedon Ranges is a season worth celebrating and this group of artists has truly encapsulated all the colours, sights, and experiences of Autumn in this stunning exhibition open every day at The Old Auction House from March 30th to April 17th.

Martha’s paintings are her love letter to all the little ecosystems she explored as a kid and to the other tiny tucked-away corners of the natural world that she had yet to observe.

Growing up living on the edge of marshland in Minnesota, she spent summers capturing various critters and placing them in a jar or shoebox with a few sticks and leaves — for ambiance! As she grew she began drawing the little creatures and incorporating them into habitats, believing all the little bits of the natural world deserved attention, and by scribbling their likeness in crayons, she was paying respect to them.

Matha is a respected watercolour artist and science illustrator from Minneapolis, Minnesota USA, who is currently working in the Dandenong’s. Where she has found boundless inspiration from living in a fern tree forest, surrounded by hills and streams, and visited by exotic parrots and bushy-tailed possums.

Her art goes beyond the mere form on the insect but is rather a complex overlapping of stories and visuals as a way to interpret the underlying systems in history, language, and nature. Martha is passionate about preserving natural history through imagery while finding new and exciting ways to depict familiar subjects.

Have you ever wondered what’s inside a rock, a seedpod or a tree trunk? Everyday items that we walk past without knowing what stories or objects lay ‘Hidden’ within. I’ve always been fascinated by the possibilities of what one may find within these spaces. In this intriguing exhibition these everyday items reveal their secrets…..

During the COVID19 lockdown, I begun to explore the theme “Hidden.” Utilising the humble pinch pot as a starting point, I created a series of small tactile clay containers into which I then placed an eclectic range of mixed media objects, which allow the viewer to reveal the ‘Hidden” within.

Adam's aerial perspectives of natural and constructed landscapes are a bold and stunning body of work that highlights our shared origin and the similarities between our modern life and our ancient past. Adam believes that when we embrace our connection to each other and the universe, kindness and compassion become our compass. Australian Born Artist Adam de Vos is a graduate of the Swinburne School of Design who has been honing his painting skills for over 30 years, this exhibition represents a turning point in his artistic intention to forge a career in Art.

Working from her studio on the Mornington Peninsula Lesley strives to capture the colour, beauty and features of her subjects, recreating them in watercolour, pencil, and graphite.

She loves studying and drawing native flora and fauna as well as the landscape she sees around herself and she often works from photo’s she has taken on her trips up and down the East Coast’s National Parks, as photography is another of her passions.

Each one of Katy’s bright, vibrant, and colourful pieces are reflections on a special person in her life.

They are an exploration of the subconscious, instinctively exploring colour, texture and shape before infusing each piece with sacred and symbolic imagery and text in response to each person and what they mean to her. She utilised a range of canvases of different sizes as well as mixed media sculptures and found objects and worded in primarily acrylic paint and mixed media to create her body of work

Each piece is accompanied by a song which reminds Katy of the subject of each piece and by using the attached QR code you are able to listen to the same version of the song accompanying each piece. These abstract portraits come together noisily, as a cacophony of colour, a raucous cocktail party, celebrating the beauty and diversity of different personalities and how they interact. Each person must ask of each piece, Is It Me, or Is It You?

A group of 8 artists having a bunch of fun exploring everything floral, as they say it with flowers!

Using a variety of mediums and often non-traditional interpretation of a posy of flowers, these artists show that while a still life vase is beautiful it is not the only way to do it with flowers.

The Press Gang is the exhibition of student prints created in Woodend Art Group using various printmaking techniques. The group, many renowned artists in their own right, develop their printmaking expertise under the watchful eye of local artist Marysia Jarosinska. We, printmakers from WAG, celebrate the 10 years anniversary of printmaking in the Group.

Regular printmaking classes were started in 2012, after the Group purchased a small etching press. That led to the gradual development of the Printmaking Studio.

Can the introduction of imperfection to a landscape push the boundaries of landscape photography? Imperfect Landscape by local artist Michelle Thompson is exploring this very notion.

Living in regional Victoria, bush and farming landscapes surrounds Michelle, the countryside always seems beautiful and unaffected by traumatic events when I see landscape photographs on social media, galleries or books.

Such images led Michelle to consider the authenticity of these images and look at how she could disrupt the notion of the beautiful landscape to reflect the experience of living in regional Victoria better.

These seven artists share their visions of the realities of the present and send up signal flares of the truths of the future! They highlight needed changes and the the dire results of inaction for humans, the planet and the animals we share it with.

‘A Little Birdie Told Me...’is a careful selection of avian illustrations by nine Australian artists that creates a menagerie of an exhibition.

The group of nine emerging artists have presented studies of birds that are related to their experience, perception and aesthetics. Varying in style from high precision and detail to soft and simple work, they have succeeded in capturing the experience of being charmed by the clever personalities of the various birds they encounter.

In 'Life Through a Kaleidoscope' Min Ray uses her signature hard-edged geometric style to explore the significant moments that made her, and make all of us.

Min believes everyone has significant memories embedded within them. These memories might be associated with imagery, smell, taste, sound or touch; but she believes these visual, aural and physiological sensations contribute to our identity and sense of self. It is these memories and experiences that she portrays in her paintings.

Min creates emotive artworks employing bold colours, geometric shapes, architectural forms and structured patterns to give voice to her unique experience and creative vision. Her works invite the viewer to engage their imaginative subconscious to interpret the tension and relationships in her work.

Gold Rush opens today in the Studio Gallery, a collection of works by five artists and their exploration of the colour, it's meaning and it's inherent value.

Kyneton was part of the gateway to the gold fields in the 1800's, resulting in exponential population growth and growing wealth and it was during this boom time that our building was built.

Kylie forged a profound affinity and respect for the natural world in her formative years, this informs the principal theme of her current work - the portrayal of the diversity of life to be found in this world.

Embodying the zest for rich vibrant colours and texture that can be found in nature, Kylie’s heady, whimsical, and energetic style utilises a bold and confident brush work to create a stunning showcase of work.

Despite men dominating the headlines in the art world, women are at the forefront of art, and Australia is no exception. The Mornington Peninsula in particular is home to many of Australia’s most notable female artists.

This exhibition features a selection of strong, independent women from the Mornington Peninsula who are following their lead producing art that encompasses the spectrum of the human experience: life, love, loss, family, friendship, history, nature, religion, tradition, empowerment, hope and unity (not to mention “little acts of rebellion” that are vital in an industry that has long been dominated by the patriarchy).

Portraits of Queer GV (Greater Victoria) is a collection of self-portraits that were created during workshops that took place between November 2025 and January 2026. The locations include Shepparton, Traralgon, Sale, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Woodend, Bendigo, Maryborough and Geelong. The majority of sessions were with established pride youth groups.

The workshops, which were led by Moira Shire artist Ruby Wyatt-Carter, prompted participants to consider different aspects of their identity as they were creating their portraits. The portraits were dominantly made using paper collage. 

This project was funded by Midsummer’s Regional Arts Program and supported by Goulburn Valley Pride

Celebrating 41 years of creativity, camaraderie, and clay, the Macedon Ranges Potters present their much-loved Annual Exhibition in line with Woodend Winter Arts Festival in their their new location of The Old Auction House Gallery, Kyneton.

The Macedon Ranges Potters are a close-knit group who have long shared ideas, food, and plenty of laughter alongside their artistic practice. The 13 members have a diverse range of ceramic styles—from finely crafted functional ware such as mugs, bowls and platters, to distinctive one-off sculptural and illustrated pieces.

Impressions, a solo exhibition by photographer Paul Melnyczuk, aims to capture the emotion and image that he saw in that moment through the lens of his camera, sometimes a more ‘impressionist’ approach, utilising software and intentional camera movement to capture a radically different but equally valid memory of the moment an image was captured.

Paul has been photographing his world since he picked up a camera while spending three years in Africa from 1981, he credits the lack of technology and digital images from this era, in honing his eye and use of the camera.

After his retirement from writing and photography for magazines, he began playing with the developing technology in manipulating the images to be a truer representation of what he saw in his mind.

This collection of works started in Scotland during the Covid Lockdowns when started taking landscapes and when he moved from Scotland to Australia in 2024 he continued to capture his new surroundings as he explored Australia from Bryon Bay, Mission Beach to Mt Macedon and more.

Come and explore the last 6 years of Paul’s journeys and the images that he saw and recreated through his lens.

Seasons of the Ranges celebrates the ever-changing beauty of the Macedon Ranges, drawing inspiration from its shifting light, colours, and moods throughout the year. 

Presented as part of the Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival, this exhibition invites artists to interpret the region’s dramatic seasonal transformations, from misty winters and vibrant autumn foliage to the fresh energy of spring and the warmth of summer. Through diverse styles and mediums, the works capture not only the landscape itself but also the atmosphere and emotion it evokes. Seasons of the Ranges offers a reflective journey through place and time, honouring the deep connection between artists and the rhythms of the natural environment.

Living Legacy is an exhibition that celebrates the beauty, diversity, and significance of the animal world while highlighting the urgent need for its protection. Timed to coincide with World Wildlife Day on March 3rd, the exhibition brings together artworks that honour animals through their likenesses, capturing both their physical presence and symbolic importance.

Each piece serves as a visual reminder of the fragile balance between humans and the natural world, encouraging reflection on conservation, preservation, and our shared responsibility to safeguard wildlife for future generations. Through creative expression, Living Legacy invites viewers to connect emotionally with animals and to recognise their enduring role in shaping our planet’s living heritage

Belinda Mackie’s first Solo Exhibition, is a fulfilment of a challenge she set herself while at an art retreat in Morocco in October 2024. It is her pilgrimage of discovery around what constitutes abstract art for her, although, by its very nature it is ever changing.  

The journey started when she moved to the Macedon Ranges in 2016 and decided to prioritise her artistic practice to balance her life while working in the Mental Health field. Since childhood, Belinda has used art and craft of many forms as a way to express herself, and now predominantly works in acrylics and mixed media.

Her work is often abstract and driven by intuition and the beauty of her region, which inspires her to produce honest, stimulating and engaging works. Each piece starts with a loose form and often has many layers and iterations before it finds it’s final form full of shape, texture, mark making, mixed media and, of course, colour.

Dreamscapes and Other Worlds invites viewers to step beyond the familiar and into realms shaped by imagination, intuition, and emotion. Bringing together sculpture, cyanotypes, and paintings, the exhibition explores surreal, abstract, and fantastical interpretations of both inner and outer worlds. Each artwork acts as a portal, blurring the boundaries between reality and dream, the conscious and the subconscious making forms shift, narratives dissolve, and atmospheres linger. Dreamscapes and Other Worlds celebrates the power of art to create alternate realities and reveal unseen dimensions of experience.
