Despite men dominating the headlines in the art world, women are at the forefront of art, and Australia is no exception. The Mornington Peninsula in particular is home to many of Australia’s most notable female artists. This exhibition features a selection of strong, independent women from the Mornington Peninsula who are following their lead producing art that encompasses the spectrum of the human experience: life, love, loss, family, friendship, history, nature, religion, tradition, empowerment, hope and unity (not to mention “little acts of rebellion” that are vital in an industry that has long been dominated by the patriarchy).

The Buttlejorrk Artists group is one the longest continual running artists collective in the Macedon Ranges. Established in 1976, as a group of potters wishing to share their knowledge and exhibit their work together, they derived their name, “Buttlejorrk”, from the traditional name of an area around Sunbury and Diggers Rest.

The group has expanded to include a wider range of arts including painting, sculpture, jewellery, textiles and woodwork.

This year marks their 45th annual group show and features the current members as well as special guests from the Macedon Ranges Potters.

Buttlejorrk Artists: Cathy Grose, Mim Osmelak, Brandy Monteith, Denise Martin, Pat Beasley, Pam Jackson, Jen Tyquin, Tim Meager, Jan Guest, Deidre Chestney, and Marg Altmann.

October 28 - November 15, 2021

Creating during Lockdown provided Rebecca with a much-needed outlet and escape in a period that was so difficult and challenging for so many. These large scale, vibrant paintings inspired by nature brought her a sense of contentment and joy and her hope is that they do the same for everyone who views them.

Throughout her practice, she has focused strongly on the therapeutic benefits of art in both her works and her teaching. I find abstract work allows her to be spontaneous while pattern design and stencilling helps her feel relaxed and focused, similar to meditating. When people view Rebecca’s artworks she wants them to feel the same sense of joy and pleasure that as she does while creating them.

The annual exhibition of Kyneton Art Group which is normally held in line with the Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival. Due to Covid it has been reimagined to fill Main Gallery. A culmination of the members work for the last 12 months and a celebration of achievement in a year that was beyond challenging in so many ways.

August 5 - September 13

The Worlds Between explores the complex habitats of wetlands, mangroves and rock pools, those worlds between land and water. They are vital links between the watery and the solid, worlds of unique and dynamic relationships.

We are beginning to understand how wetlands and mangroves are critical parts of our natural environment. They support a wide variety of plants and animals, and are important areas for migratory seabirds.

Too often these habitats have been seen as expendable barriers to development, to be chopped down, drained and concreted over.

"The Fine Print" is a celebration of everything printmaking! This group exhibition features 7 talented printmakers and is a must-see for anyone who loves this unique format as much as we do!

Rust and Stardust explores the borders of this world and fantasy using the rusted, patinaed and forgotten treasures from a bygone era. Regina has always been an avid collector of items that have an aged patina and a layer of history and character- rusty metal, tarnished silverware, verdigris copper, old keys, vintage pressed metal, nothing is too aged, just more antiqued. Using simple techniques borrowed from every art form and profession Regina half assembles and half engineers each piece creating her unusual characters and friends she hadn't yet met that she believes are already within her materials.

Capturing the colours, patinas and vibe of leaf fall in the Macedon Ranges, Rust and Stardust was on display as part of the inaugural Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival.

Presented in conjunction with Art Aviso this group exhibition is a collection of works from artists from all over the country, tied together by the theme of buttons. Each artist was provided with a selection of 6 buttons to use as inspiration for a circular or spherical shaped artwork. Artists have used their selection of buttons in their own way, ranging from artworks which include the buttons in their creation through to artworks that reference the colours or textures of their supplied buttons.

Elio has worked as a professional photographer for over 40 years. He has documented a diverse range of subjects from Weddings to refugee camps in Syria, and many subjects in-between. Distillations is a collection of paintings created during a period in Susie’s art practice where she settled upon the key aspirational outcome for her work: joy. In creating this exhibition, Susie was motivated by a desire to express the sophistication of colour and the boldness of form. The works are a physical distillation of that process, with their emotional distillation being the impact on viewers. Thematically, Distillations is Susie’s articulation of the essence of nature and its beauty.

Lynka’s debut solo exhibition is a culmination of being present in what has been some difficult times throughout the last couple years, appreciating what we have and sometimes just not coping at all. With the belief each moment has its place in our lives whether we welcome it or not; this collection of works documents their significance.

Working predominantly with acrylics, I seek to explore a woman’s relationship with herself, others and ultimately her place in this unpredictable world. Through simplified forms and complex lines, Lynka’s work examines the transformative and sometimes volatile parallels between the rational and irrational. Abstraction facilitates freedom, allowing exploration beyond the acutely obvious or logical, and allowing the viewer to delve into the work to find their own emotional connections and associations.

All creative work is all a reflection on the spirit in different ways, and these young people are also particularly spirited, bold and courageous. They have also reflected on their spirit in softer and more individual ways, their work is always authentic, often humorous and generous in nature. Despite the challenges of 2020 and 2021, their spirit has never dulled.

When entering the forest my sensing changes. I start to hear through my feet and the world slows down and becomes a little hazy. Your perspective shifts and I see tales everywhere. There’s a silver needle I lost while stitching. It might take a few lifetimes to retrieve it and I worry that the critters might come to harm.

I find first enchantments and treasure everywhere and collect pieces in my picnic basket on the way to Grandma’s house. For now I’ll keep reading Faery stories while I work it out. Or not. Blessings on the dark, wild, and untameable Forest.

There are many reasons we can deplete. Yet there are a myriad of reason worth nourishing ourselves.

Pieces in this exhibition included sensory costumes, clothing and objects that incorporate natural materials and dyes, found objects and repurposed clothing.

These irreverent lino prints are an exploration of the effect humans have had on the world we inhabit. Coupling simple imagery with bright ‘manufactured’ colours rarely found in nature the images invite viewers in with their disarming colouring only to catch them off guard and beat them around the brain with a rubber wiffle bat of thought provoking details.

Always frolicking between having dusty boots at home in the Macedon Ranges with a camera slung over her shoulder, to barefoot near the ocean with her underwater housing in her hands, it’s in both of these places and in between where she has found she belongs and is happiest – anywhere the sun shines and there is open space to wander, capturing those not-so-little moments full of beauty and magic.
