Rhain DiPilla

Printmaker and Bookbinder

While Rhain is often thought of as a glass artist, glass is her day job and paper is her passion! From collecting paper (oh so much paper), antique Dictionaries and Bibles, to printmaking, origami, and bookbinding, there isn’t much about, or made of paper, that she doesn’t love.

You can find out more about Rhain’s day job as owner of The Old Auction House and partner of Leadlight By Ettore, or follow her on her instagram to see her latest projects.

Rhain DiPilla - Printmaker and Bookbinder

Rhain is a teacher, artist, crafter, archaeologist, leadlighter and so much more. A woman of many hats, she is the founder and driving force behind The Old Auction House, and is endlessly passionate about the accessibility of everyday people to 'the arts' in all its forms. She is also one half of Leadlight By Ettore a multi-generational glass arts studio on site at The Old Auction House where she and her father teach 80 term students and 250+ students through weekend workshops in glass arts each year.

Rhain Teaching linoprinting to a student

But while Rhain loves teaching glass her passion is Printmaking and Bookbinding...the smaller and weirder the better. Her work draws heavily from her interest in Meso-American mythology and life long love of little things. As far as Rhain is concerned it doesn't matter what it is, wouldn't it be better at 1/16th of the size and twice as intricately decorated?

Having taught first IT and now glass and craft for the last 20 years she passionately shares all of her knowledge in a calm methodical way that makes every student succeed.

A very enjoyable workshop. Excellently delivered and all aspects of the craft thoroughly discussed. Teacher was awesome and we were sent home with a bag of goodies allowing us to continue the craft in our own time.
