Join Marilyn Andrews in this beginners and intermediate series of 8 weekly Drawing Classes from 10.30-12.30pm on Thursdays beginning 23rd July until 10th September 2025.

** Please note that all skill levels are welcomed and returning students will complete different projects in each session to their new classmates**

Marilyn will work with each students current skill level to help them grow and develop their skills. The classes will adapt to the needs of students but some of the techniques that Marilyn hopes to be discussed and taught are:

  • What is drawing, looking and seeing when drawing

  • Left side and right side brain activity

  • How to use the tools of drawing including different papers

  • Basics of line, mass, shape and form in drawing

  • Greyscale - what is it

  • Tonal gradients of colour

  • Drawing techniques using line and shading, grisaille with one colour pencil

  • Conveying mood, emotion, storyline to the viewer

  • Styles and themes - realistic, abstract, travel journal, children's book, people, landscapes

  • Composition and content of picture for effect

  • Linear and aerial perspective

  • Push and pull within the greyscale

Students have the choice of bringing their own supplies or they can purchase a Class Set at the time of booking or on the first day of class as well as purchasing individual items from the Class Set list if you have some of them at home.

Class Materials Required (if not purchasing class set) or similar

  • A4 Drawing Cartridge Paper at least 160gsm (Como Pad 210gsm)

  • Graphite pencils 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B (Staedtler Pencils)

  • 0.4mm and 0.8mm Fineliner Pens (Micron 04 & 08)

  • 12mm Bullet Tip Fineliner (Micron in 12mm bullet tip)

  • Vinyl Eraser, Kneadable Eraser, & Pencil Sharpener

  • Transparent Ruler & Medium Paper Stump

  • Adel 12 Pack Colour Pencils

Marilyn Andrews

Marilyn Andrews is a self-taught artist with a deep connection to the Macedon Ranges whose work spans a variety of mediums, including water colour, oil, acrylic, pastel, ink pen, pencil, charcoal, glass and porcelain.

Inspired by the colours and brushwork of the impressionists as well as the glazing techniques of the old masters, she has honed her distinctive style over the years as an abstract impressionist. Building on strong technical foundations her use of line, rhythm, movement and colour has continuously evolved, cultivating a range of diverse methods to blend realism with abstract elements to share her artistic vision. I

n addition to her own artistic practice, Marilyn has been a passionate educator for decades, teaching art to people of all ages and skill levels. She believes that everyone has an ability to be an artist and that the pursuit of becoming an artist is an ongoing learning adventure with all the parallels of life’s ups and down
